01 / The Idea

Why Nigerian SMEs fail on generic Shopify & WooCommerce setups.

Standard Western e-commerce software is engineered around stable 5G fiber broadband, universal credit card trust, and automated postal courier tracking. In Lagos and major Nigerian commerce hubs, the operational reality is entirely different:

  • Bandwidth Burden: Typical bloated Shopify themes load 3MB+ of JavaScript, tracking pixels, and heavy CSS, taking 8 to 14 seconds to load on mobile 3G/4G connections in Lagos traffic.
  • Payment Gateway Friction: 3DS card OTP failures and bank USSD timeouts trigger cart abandonment rates exceeding 45%.
  • The WhatsApp Disconnect: Over 70% of Nigerian D2C transactions are finalized on WhatsApp where buyers request real product photos, discuss sizes, and confirm delivery rider schedules. Traditional platforms completely isolate this channel.

Ngwanu Market solves this natively: an edge-cached static frontend that loads in under 400 milliseconds, offline product browsing via service workers, multi-currency display, and an instantaneous WhatsApp checkout fallback that formats the cart into an itemized, ready-to-dispatch invoice.

02 / What We Built

Complete, production-ready retail features.

SSENSE + Apple Visual Hierarchy

Editorial typography, high-contrast imagery, off-white brand canvas (#FAF9F6), responsive bento grid category showcases, and subtle Framer Motion springs.

Hybrid WhatsApp Fallback

Shoppers can pay via mock Paystack/Flutterwave or click "Order via WhatsApp" to auto-generate an itemized order message with size, color, Lagos address, and delivery fee.

Offline PWA Caching

Installed as a progressive web app. Shoppers can continue viewing the 24 pre-loaded inventory items, cart items, and placed orders even when cellular network is disconnected.

Admin Mock Dashboard

Modeled after the Ngwanu Express control panel. Merchants can view live metrics, add/edit/delete products in localStorage, and manage customer dispatch statuses.
